Seminar Title:

Metabotropic Mechanisms of α7 Nicotinic Receptor Signaling

When:

Wednesday, February 12th, 2020

10:00 – 11:00 AM

Where:

Dale Melbourne Herklotz Conference Center

Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory (Building 506 on the campus map)

Seminar Summary:

The pharmacological targeting of the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) is a promising strategy in the treatment of various neural and immune diseases.  Cellular signaling through the α7 nAChR appears to involve both ion conductance, through the open channel state, and intracellular signaling through a metabotropic state. I will summarize findings from our lab and others on the role of α7 nAChR metabotropic signaling in the regulation of signal transduction, cellular calcium, and cytoskeletal growth. Metabotropic activity enables α7 nAChR function in developing neural cells, early synaptic compartments, and in immune cells such as microglia.
